In the year 1911, Delhi became prominent in the World political map, when the Capital of India shifted from Calcutta to this place. Bengalis, better known for celebrating Durga & Kali Puja with great pomp & show, started celebrating Durga Puja in Delhi.
The Minto Road Puja Samity started its religious activities in the year 1913 at Timarpur, when Government of India Press shifted from Kolkata to Delhi. At that time, the Puja was celebrated under the banner of Government of India Press Puja Samity. In the year 1940, the Government of India Press Puja Samity and AGPT Puja Samity amalgamated and emerged as Minto Road Puja Samity. Since then, it has been celebrating Durga Puja and Kali Puja at the present venue i.e. the junction of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg and Ahalya Bai Road, New Delhi – 110002. Slowly, this Puja started gaining importance due to selfless and hard work of seniors as well as young members. The Samity consists of dedicated workers, who as a team, work tirelessly and do their best for the betterment of Puja without any selfish motive. The traditional Durga Protima, Vibrant and Colorfully decorated Pandal, large scale distribution of Bhog prasad and traditional form of Puja at Minto Road are famous not only in Delhi but also in the neighboring states. Thousands of devotees throng the Minto Road Puja Mandap during the Durga Puja days, just to have a glimpse of Maa Durga and offer their puja to the Goddess. Minto Road Puja Samity has won awards, many a times, for its excellent Durga Puja Celebration.
